I am approved by OASAS to conduct substance abuse evaluations for courts alcohol and substance abuse assessments for those in court over drinking and driving offenses, and recommendations for level of care and treatment; clinical evaluation for restoration of New York State driving privileges (DS-449 Form), "Alcohol & Drug Abuse Rehabilitative Program Summary", after the client has successfully completed treatment and demonstrated a period of sober stability.
For such purposes, in accordance with 14 NYCRR 800, et seq., a mandatory screening under these provisions is required to utilize one of five standardized screening instruments, a thorough structured clinical interview for purposes of a biopsychosocial history, with collateral sources as relevant and appropriate for the most accurate screening determination; substance abuse history, health history, and mental health assessment. Clients will be asked to sign consents for release of information as a condition of acceptance for this service.
Urine drug analysis in connection with such evaluations is performed by a laboratory licensed pursuant to section 575 of the Public Health Law to analyze and report on samples using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry or an equivalent scientifically accepted method that provides quantitative data about the detected drug or drug metabolites. I will not use swabs, dip-sticks, other field-test methods, which are not as reliable as laboratory testing.
A report will be submitted to the Court and the attorneys (if there is a preference otherwise please say so in advance) by a specified required return date, concluding with a treatment recommendation if any is indicated. Supportive, reality-based mental health counseling before and during recovery, relapse prevention, recovery planning, and referral to higher levels of care is available for those who would benefit. Teens under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the intake appointment. My orientation is person-centered, looking for strengths in the client to build upon.
