I am available to see individuals, couples, and families for private mental health or addiction counseling services in central Monticello.

By February 1, 2011, I plan to relocate to 6 Pelton Street. If you have any question about the location of your appointment, please call.

Until then, I am located across from the St. John Street Education Center operated by Sullivan County BOCES. The following information pertains to that location.

Saint John Street intersects with Broadway (NYS Route 42) directly across the street from the Lawrence H. Cooke Sullivan County Court House. The office building is between St. John's Episcopal Church and the law offices of Zachary Kelson, Esq.

Directions

From Rt. 17 East/West take Exit 105A, merge onto Route 42 toward Monticello. At corner with Broadway ("T" in road) turn right. At next traffic light (by Chase Bank) make a left onto St. John's Street. You will see the old stone rectory building on your left just before the church.

From Forestburgh/Port Jervis, take Route 42 into Monticello, follow curve to right for Broadway. At the fourth traffic light (Courthouse will be to your left), make a right onto St. John Street. You will see the old stone rectory building on your left just before the church

From Bethel and West, take Route 17B East into Monticello. Past Monticello Raceway take a right onto West Broadway. Proceed on West Broadway until you reach Stop Sign with Broadway. Stay straight and at fourth traffic light (Courthouse will be to your left), make a right onto St. John Street. You will see the old stone rectory building on your left just before the church.

Please enter through the front door.

Built eight years after the construction of the present-day Episcopal church (right), this view of the rectory (left) was probably photographed about 1911 or 1912, from the grounds of the once grand Hotel Rockwell at the corner of Main and Mill streets (now Broadway and St. John Street (where the Margolan Building, and later the Rhulen Building eventually stood).

The parish itself was organized in 1816; the present stone church constructed in 1880.

The ornate fountain, surmounted by a water nymph, was one of the few evidences that the huge hotel ever existed, after it was destroyed the great fire of 1909 which consumed much of the business center of the Village of Monticello. Enough time has elapsed between the fire and this photograph for the hotel's ruins to have been cleaned up and replaced by a verdant lawn.

To the left, just outside the frame of this image, a few hundred yards from Mill Street (near the former Kerr's Garage and present-day Crawford Library), was the massive Victorian mansion initially built as a residence for one of Monticello's earliest pioneers, Samuel F. Jones. The mansion was later purchased by Gen. Archibald C. Niven.

The history of St. John's Episcopal church, Monticello, New York, for one hundred years, 1816-1916, compiled to commemorate its centenary [download] recalls:

"The Rev. William F. Dickinson, M.D. [was installed as vicar] in May 1887, and shortly after he came, the present rectory was built, a monument to the generosity of the Hon. Daniel B. St. John. Not only did Mr. St. John build the rectory without cost to the parish, but he gave ten feet of additional ground to the vestry in order to meet the requirements of the size of the building. The rectory grounds were improved by grading and sidewalks in 1888."
